Akhilesh Reddy: Biography

Akhilesh Reddy qualified from the MB/PhD programme at the University of Cambridge after completing his research and clinical training. He undertook the doctoral component in Dr Michael Hastings' laboratory at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology. After a period of full-time training in Neurology, Prof Reddy was awarded a Wellcome Trust Clinician Scientist fellowship in 2008, which allowed him to start his research group within the Institute of Metabolic Science at the University of Cambridge.

Prof Reddy now straddles between his research lab and clinical work as a Consultant Neurologist (attending neurologist) in Cambridge and is supported by the Wellcome Trust, European Research Council and Lister Institute. His work has been recognised by numerous awards including an EMBO Young Investigator Award in 2011, the Colworth Medal for Biochemistry (awarded by the Biochemical Society, UK) and Lister Prize in 2012, the Foulkes Medal (awarded by the Academy of Medical Sciences) in 2013, the FEBS Anniversary Prize in 2014, and the Linacre Medal (awarded by Royal College of Physicians) in 2015.
