Francis Crick Institute

Ages 16-19 years only

On the right of this page you will find Job Descriptions for laboratory-based work experience and non-laboratory placements suitable for students aged 16-19 years.

Only students who fulfil both of the following criteria are eligible to apply for a placement:

  • Those aged between 16 and 19 years in secondary education
  • Those living, or studying at a state school, in Camden

Job Descriptions state the dates that the placement is available, the type of work the placement involves, what is expected of the successful student and deadlines for applications. Please download the Job Descriptions that interest you from the right of this page. Job Descriptions will be added as new placements become available, so please check this page regularly.

If you would like to apply for a placement, please download the application form, also on the right of this page. Note that the application form will only be available to download if there are Job Descriptions available. The application form asks for the following information:

  • your contact details and those of your school
  • the subjects you are studying, and any grades if you have them
  • your reasons for applying for the particular work experience placement

Once you have filled in the form, send it to your teacher to complete a brief reference on the final page. Your teacher should then email the completed form to the Francis Crick Institute at:

The Crick will be in touch in due course to let you know if you have been successful. Applications sent in after the application deadline will not be accepted.

Note that as the number of placements is limited, we cannot guarantee that all those who apply will receive work experience at the Crick. We recommend that students also consider applying for work experience with other organisations.

  • The application deadlines for placements Job Descriptions [0130], [0136], [0147] and [0164] have now passed. Therefore we will be accepting no more applications for these placements.
  • The Crick would encourage all eligible students to apply for a placement through the Social Mobility Foundation or Nuffield Foundation.
  • The programmes offered by these organisations are extensive and offer significant support in addition to the work experience placement itself.
